How Do You See Yourself?
Do you see yourself accurately?
So often we pretend to be someone we are not, just to live up to the standards and expectations of others.
Have you settled for being the person you pretend to be?
Sticks and Stones
How many times have you said you are fine when you’re really not when someone asks “How are you?” It helps no one when you’re dishonest about your feelings. Similarly, when you are rejected, do you act like it doesn’t matter? Do you tell yourself “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me”? Who came up with that line? Rejection hurts! It hurts a lot. We want people to like us and accept us. If we’re not careful, we buy into the lie that we’re “not good enough” or that we’re unlikable or unlovable.
The amazing thing is that God sees all of you…the real you…the good, bad and the ugly…and loves you passionately anyway! Like a loving father, God sees your full potential and what you can be, not just your faults and mistakes. There is nothing you could ever do to make Him love you less and nothing you can do to make Him love you more. His love changes us. It’s transforming! It allows us to see ourselves through His eyes and embrace the person He has created us to be. If you get to know Him and allow Him to shape you, your life will never be the same.
“…to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.” Isaiah 61:3 NIV
Are you afraid that you are going to be let down if you truly open your heart? How can you overcome this fear?
