Living without God brings emptiness, struggle and guilt. This can be fixed!
Many of us choose the MY WAY lifestyle, which life is not God-centered, there is a void and a lack of peace. This does not only happen to the un-churched, but to those de-churched (who have left the church), as well as those sitting in the pews at church.
How can it be fixed?
One of our recent tv show guests, Kathlene Ashford, shared that she left God when her older brother died of Leukemia. God got the blame! To numb the pain she turned to drugs. Instead of drawing near to God she ran away from God, resulting in a downward spiral of problems.
That was until she reached for her phone while driving. Her 10-month old baby, Travis, was in his car seat when Kathlene hit a tree and rolled down the embankment. They both were injured, broken bones, etc… it took the paramedics 1.5 hours using the jaws of life to cut her out of the car. One of her many injuries included a torn aorta artery, which is known to be fatal in one out of two injuries.
Kathlene died three times, but God had a bigger plan for her. She shared while that the paramedics cut her out of her car she felt Jesus, his comfort and peace. She ran back to God. Not many get second chance like Kathlene.
The only benefit of saying ‘no’ to a relationship with God is that you can do what you want, but is it worth the cost?
I tried that years ago. I told God I could handle it on my own. It was an awful day. That night I crawled back to God and prayed, please take me back, the emptiness, the void, the focus on self, the lack of joy and peace were terrifying.
Do you want to get close to God? Here are THREE ways you can thrive in life:
Jesus said: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” John 14:6
Jesus is the Way
Life is a challenge; you do not know what will be next. Yesterday, while having a cup of tea at Peet’s Coffee Shop, a 91 year old woman sitting there suddenly fell backwards and was taken to the emergency room. Life is uncertain…there are identity thefts, earthquakes, tsunamis, other natural disasters, terrorist threats, crime, accidents, illnesses, financial needs, and relationship issues that happen and are common problems.
At the time that Jesus said: “I am the way…” he knew within 24 hours he would be betrayed, denied, tortured and crucified. Jesus is the way because he is both God and man. The way he chose was the only way! Jesus gave up his life as a ransom for us. So you and I can draw close to God. Do you believe Jesus is the way, that he is the Son of God, that he gave his life for you and rose from death to sit at the right hand of God for you?
Jesus is the Truth
The truth is what Pontius Pilate said 2000 years ago, then the truth was bended, twisted, and thwarted just like today. Pontius said this during Jesus’ trial and he knew that those that claimed to be the religious leaders of Judaism were full of envy, lies and deceit.
“Truth is living in reality.“ BARB MARSHALL
What is the evidence that Jesus is the truth? When John sent one of his disciples to Jesus questioning if He was the real deal, Jesus responded with truth.
Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and report to John what you hear and see: the BLIND RECEIVE SIGHT and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the POOR HAVE THE GOSPEL PREACHED TO THEM.” Mathew 11:3-5
The evidence of truth is no compromise.
I see truth when I see people standing up for what is right. This builds up instead of destroys, it gives instead of take. Everyone benefits. The evidence of truth is love. Jesus died and gave His life so you can live. He did not avoid truth, he walked the hard road, but did it out of love for you and I. The evidence of truth is peace. God’s peace will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
To be able to walk in truth you have to read the truth, believe and accept the truth, and follow the truth.
I challenge you to read one chapter of the Bible each day with me. For me, within just 2 weeks of faithfully reading it registered in my mind as truth and gave me new life. The benefits are a stronger faith, a better prayer life, and increased joy.
To receive truth, spend time in truth and the truth shall set you free.
Jesus is the life.
To begin with, no one can God except through Jesus Christ (John 6:34). Jesus is the life.
It’s true, the less you exercise the more out of shape you become. You can pay for help from a Personal Trainer to stay in shape, but that is expensive and most of us cannot afford it. To live for Jesus, all you have to do is commit to Jesus, there is no cost. Jesus knows you need help so he has sent you a helper, the Holy Spirit.
“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.” John 14:16-17
Jesus’ culture is walking the extra mile, turning the other cheek, loving God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength, and loving your neighbor as yourself. This is what Jesus did and what he is asking you to do, too. Jesus did not give up, he didn’t walk away, nor run from what was ahead. Rather, he persevered and served God no matter what – all the way to the cross. This is impossible without God and that is why Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to help us with the task.
In my personal experience, the Holy Spirit brings truth to me in all situations. The Holy Spirit helps me to prepare and deliver messages, helps me talk to and pray with people. Helps me to, “Let go and let God” instead of letting bitterness take root in my heart. The Holy Spirit will help you to:
- Obey God
- Bring Scriptures to mind
- Reveal the truth
The way is: The way Jesus loved! He is asking us to love God with all we have and to love our neighbor as we would love our self. When we do that it will make all the difference in the world.
“You shall love the lord your god with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” Luke 10: 27
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” JESUS CHRIST
Walking in truth is not looking over your back but looking ahead knowing the road you walk is with Jesus.
