When there is a spirit of poverty at work, there is lack. This manifests in relationships, finances, friendships, and the work field, etc. The results are not good, reactions come out of this such as: complaining about taxes; God will bless others but not me; I am not good enough; competition with other Christians/churches; the get rich quick mode; staying in a job for financial for security reasons but knowing GOD has much bigger plans for you; holding on to security instead of stepping out in faith; regularly more than your budget is set for, and spending all you have.
Laziness in reading the Bible, expecting GOD to hand you a check on a golden platter without activating your faith and/or doing your part. This lack is expressed by critique, frustration, and the “you owe me” mode. When you lack something there is weariness instead of joy and contentment, always expecting more…
The two questions you should ask yourself are how did you get stuck with this to begin with but even the bigger question is how do you get free from this mindset and oppression that seems to win each and every time.
“And it will come about that whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be delivered.”
Joel 2:32 (NASB)
Yesterday, I just came out of an 18 day fast. Even if I was fasting for a different reason, the blessing was much bigger by getting unstuck from the spirit of poverty. I had become aware that I had a spirit of poverty that was oppressing me. During the last day of the fast I was quiet before the LORD, acknowledging that I was behaving like a victim and giving into the enemy’s economy’s lack.
I had communion and then declared that I wanted to be free. I asked “Holy Spirit what was standing in the way,” instantly thoughts came to my mind taking me back to 40 years earlier. The root of this spirit had started long ago. I repented. Many sins came to mind that needed repentance. Not just for the action but also for my behavior and attitude all these years. It is very important that this comes from the heart. I repented for my negativity too. Next, I repented of everything that Holy Spirit has shown me including family, and my bloodline.
Then I waited for Holy Spirit seeing if there was more. Then I prayed for forgiveness for the bitterness that throughout the years that was in my heart, blaming others for my stuff, and for my willingness to stay stuck for so long.
It was time for the next step. I went to the heavenly courts and asked for permission to enter. To bring my case, hearing the accusation, answering the accusation in agreement, repent of this accusation make a declaration of intent and then receive my decree. There was a huge weight lifted off me, I AM FREE. Now I enforce it in the earth by renewing my mind.
Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him. 2 The Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, Satan! Indeed, the Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?” 3 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments and standing before the angel. 4 He spoke and said to those who were standing before him, saying, “Remove the filthy garments from him.” Again he said to him, “See, I have taken your iniquity away from you and will clothe you with festal robes.” 5 Then I said, “Let them put a clean turban on his head.” So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him with garments, while the angel of the Lord was standing by.
6 And the angel of the Lord admonished Joshua, saying, 7 “Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘If you will walk in My ways and if you will perform My service, then you will also govern My house and also have charge of My courts, and I will grant you free access among these who are standing here.

Life Changing Tips
- Become quiet before the LORD

- List all wrong behaviors and attitude that come to mind and ask if there is more.
- Do not give in to distractions. The poverty spirit is trying to keep you into captivity.
- Repent for your family. Include the full names of your parents and allow Holy Spirit to show you what it is that needs to be repented off.
- Go to the heavenly courts. (Read Robert Henderson book “Accessing the Courts of Heaven” in how to do this.)
