The Shield of Faith
Words Matter and Have an Impact
My mother in law called. She asked to speak with my husband. “He is on motorcycle trip,” came my reply.
She recalled his motorcycle accident and responded: “Has he not gotten over that yet?”
In this moment I went wrong. I received her words, “I agree and I don’t think it is safe to ride a motor cycle.” Hours later Ken came home and half an hour we argued about motorcycles.
I did not build up my husband. I received words from another and responded by what was in my heart.
Nelson Mandela said: “It is never my custom to use words lightly. If 27 years in prison have done anything to us, it was to use the silence of solitude to make us understand how precious words are, and how real speech is in its impact on the way people live and die.”
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” – Proverbs 18:21
Part of the armor of God is taking up the shield of faith. Taking up is an action, is making a move by getting ready to defend yourself GOD’S WAY.
Who do you need to forgive? Let us help by praying with you.

“In addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.” – Ephesians 6:16
The flaming arrows are words. Words spoken or received becomes an opportunity for Satan to give you thoughts and feed what already is in your heart.
“Who have sharpened their tongue like a sword. They aimed bitter speech as their arrow.” – Psalm 64:3
GOD never spoke a wasted word. God spoke with Adam in the garden. He told Noah to build an ark. He spoke to Moses in a burning bush. When Jesus was baptized God said, “this is my beloved son.”
Each time God speaks it is truth and makes an impact. God uses words and it is. God’s words, and yes even your words, matter and make an impact. When God speaks each word has an impact. Each WORD matters.
“By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible. For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” – Hebrews 4:11-12
Words have an impact with words we reject, built up, or tear down. Someone can tell you three compliments and one critique and you will remember the negative more than the positives. Your words matter and make an impact, bigger than most people realize.
“So also the tongue is a small part of the body, and yet it boasts of great things. See how great a forest it set aflame by such a small fire! And the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity; the tongue is set among our members as that which defiles the entire body, and sets on fire the course of our life, and is set on fire by hell.” – James 3:5-6
“What you believe in your heart is what comes out of your mouth. If it is good. You will built up, if there is un-forgiveness and anger, etc. You will receive thoughts form the Holy Spirit and form Satan but it is what is in your heart what you will receive and how you will respond by what comes out of your mouth. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth. This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy. And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.” – James 3:14-18
I worked in a nursing facility years ago. One of the supervisors handed me a thermometer and told me not to break the thermometer. There was so much fear not to break the thermometer that I broke it and felt horrible. Looking back, my mistake was that I was so afraid that I would break it that I received her warning too much.
What comes out of your mouth is what is in the heart. An anesthesiologist once told me that when you start to come out a general anesthetic what is in your heart is what comes out. Some people swear everything together and others are thankful.
“But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person.” – Matthew 15:18
The problem is the moment you judge someone you accuse yourself with the same judgment.
“I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” – Matthew 12:36-37
Life Changing Tip
Cleanse your heart.
To be able to get the words right you have to get your heart right and to be able to get your heart right you have to spent time in HIS presence and when you do this is when the heart is getting cleansed. you are getting ready to put up your shield of faith.
Stop and hold up the shield of faith. Do not receive every word
“Do not take to heart all the things that people say, lest you hear your servant cursing you. Your heart knows that many times you yourself have cursed others.” – Ecclesiastes 7:21-22
You have to set the course of your mouth by kingdom standards. The focus of your words would be the planned outcome not the moment of your struggle. Your vision should be in mind for your day. It changes the perspective for the way you live and go through your day.
“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” – Ephesians 4:29
Take up the shield of faith.
You have to hold up the shield to stop the arrows. Faith is trust in God. You have to step into faith. Faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains.
“And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever say’s to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore, I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” – Mark 11:22-24
“Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.” – Romans 12:14
Speak to your thoughts when they are not of God and command Satan to leave when he tries to have a huge discussion in your mind with you.
“Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.” – Colossians 4:6
